Powering Up: Tata Power’s ₹6,600 Cr Move into Solar Wafers

Tata Power is set to break ground on its proposed 10 GW greenfield photovoltaic wafer and ingot manufacturing facility in Odisha in October 2026. Having secured the necessary land, the company is now finalizing remaining statutory approvals, including environmental and water permissions.

The project represents a total investment of approximately ₹6,600 crore and will be executed in two 5 GW phases. Phase 1 is targeted for commissioning in January 2028, with Phase 2 planned to follow roughly six months later.

Designed to deepen Tata Power's backward integration across the solar PV value chain, this new facility complements its existing 4.3 GW cell and module plant, which is operating at full capacity with no further expansion slated.
